Four Parishes Arts Society - December 2003

In spite of a damp, uninviting November evening, there was a very good turnout for the lecture on "Landscape Artists" given by Catherine Barnes. With the help of slides, she posed the question as to whether the paintings were an expression of art or nature. She combined this with a brief history of art in the context of landscape from the sixteenth to twentieth century. A very thought provoking, stimulating talk, packed with information.

The next meeting, the pre-Christmas one on Saturday 29 November, will be the eagerly awaited visit by "The Madding Crowd". We are very fortunate to have the chance to see this group who appear on television and throughout the south of England. They will perform old style village band and choir music in period costume with dancing. This will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies. Members are welcome to bring friends (£2 a head). Children over 8 also very welcome. The venue is at Grateley Village Hall and the meeting will start at 7.30 p.m. (and not at our usual 8.00). Car parking will be outside the church with signposting for overflow parking and turning at Andover Turf Co, 250 yards on the Wallop side of the Village Hall. Members are asked to share transport where possible.

The January meeting will be in Monxton Village Hall on 13 January and will be "An Evening of Magic" with Michael King, complete with a glass of wine. This is definitely an evening not to be missed whether it is a first or repeat visit to one of Michael's amazing exhibitions of magic. - PMG
