The Aubertins - Devoted Couple Remembered

A devoted Amport couple who died within eight days of each other last summer have been remembered in a ceremony on the village green.

Dick and Peggy Aubertin were both 80 when they died. They had lived in the parish all their lives, most recently at Sarson Close. Both had worked hard for the village community, but it was Dick's many years of service on the parish council and his lifetime's work as a forester which led to a tree being planted on the green in their memory.

Around 40 family and friends were at the ceremony to hear a brief address from former parish council chairman David Wilkinson, who served for many years with Dick and recalled his hard work. Among those present were Dick's sisters, Iris and Doreen, and Peggy's sister, Betty. The couple's son, Stephen, was unable to attend as he was in America with his family.

A plaque has been placed by the tree, a festigiate oak, to mark the couple's work for the parish and the tree was dedicated to their memory during the ceremony by Amport parish vicar Chris Pettet.
