About Amport

Amport is a small village four miles west of Andover and over 300 ft above sea level, in the valley of Pillhill brook. It is a beautiful village containing several thatched cottages, some of which were built in the 15th and 17th centuries.

The village is mostly centred around the green by the Church of England school. The green is used for school games and local events such as maypole dancing and fetes.

The Hawk Conservancy in Amport is said to have the greatest collection of birds of prey in Britain. It is owned by Ashley Smith and family who train and breed the birds. Flying demonstrations of hawks and falcons are given daily throughout the summer months.

Highland Cattle  Highland Cattle happily grazing

There is a herd of Highland Cattle and a Longhorn Bull in the meadows between Amport and East Cholderton. They can usually be seen grazing peacefully by the brook.

Horse breeding has been a local industry for centuries. Many successful racehorses have been born and trained nearby, and new stables are being constructed.
